Save for the 1980s boom, it has never been a better time to be a stand up comedian. Acts that would have been niche just a few years ago have made a jump to mainstream success and have more and more frequently become household names. In the early 2000s, someone like Zach Galifianakis would have trouble landing bit parts on the smallest of movies. Now, thanks to the Hangover movies, he is one of the most well known comedians in the world. The same goes for guys like Louis CK and Kevin Hart, who have clawed their way to the top of the comedy hill.
Less Mainstream Comedians
Because of comedy’s growing appeal, lesser known acts have been able to start making a name for themselves as well. Through podcasts and independently released albums, guys like Hannibal Buress, John Mulaney, Tig Nataro and the like have been able to become icons in the comedy community without currently having a movie or TV show to fall back on.
When it comes down to it, comedy is growing and growing, and it’s up to you to start researching what you should be watching. A good way to do that is to start attending comedy shows in your local area. If you are interested in seeing a show, please contact us.
